I have a red and black buffalo check obsession lately and I’ve been looking for throw pillows for my couch and loveseat.  I wanted two for each couch but after looking at several, I didn’t want to pay $15-$20 apiece.  These would be seasonal, anyway, making the expense unjustifiable.  Therefore, I began looking for cheaper alternatives and what do you know!  I found one!!  Hobby Lobby has all their Christmas items on sale, 50% off.  Lucky for me, the buffalo check (plaid) is Christmas!  The napkins are $2.99 regular price, so with the discount, that makes them $1.49 each.

Thrift stores are also a great place to find cloth napkins for super cheap!  But if both of those fail, you can always look to Amazon!

(Note:  I bought 8 napkins at Hobby Lobby in early November.  I went back at the end of November for more red and black buffalo check and unfortunately, they were sold out.  I checked Hobby Lobby online as well, with no luck.  Sold out there, too.  I did, however, find the red and black buffalo check napkins on Amazon (set of 6).  They were a little more, but not much.  They were also a little larger.  The Hobby Lobby napkins were 18″ x 18″ and Amazon’s were 20″ x 20″.)

Materials Needed (for 1 Pillow):

  • Polyfil – I purchased this SUPER large bag of Polyfil (50 ounces) at Walmart for $8.97.  I stuffed 4 pillows and still had over 1/2 of the bag left.
  • 2 cloth napkins
  • Glue gun and glue sticks

Directions:

1. Press both napkins, first.  Then lay your two napkins together, wrong sides facing in.  Before you begin to glue, lay the napkins together and see which sides match up the best.  Each one is supposed to be 18″ x 18″, but sometimes this can vary from 1/4″ to 1/2″.  You may have to manipulate the material just a little to get them to line up perfectly.

2. Apply hot glue along the hem of the napkin and glue the two edges together.  I followed the seam line, as shown below.

Tip:  Work in small sections and work quickly.  I would work on about 3-4″ at a time, as hot glue tends to harden fast.  Press the seem together and hold for a few seconds before moving to the next section.

3. Continue to glue the napkins together but leave one side open.  Insert your pillow stuffing until you get the desired thickness.  Once you have it filled, glue the opening closed.

Because the cloth napkins are already hemmed, your edge will look finished and like they have been sewn.

Easy Care..

For care, I recommend spot cleaning.  These Easy DIY No Sew Pillows are for decorative purposes, only and shouldn’t be used to sleep on.  They are so easy, inexpensive and fun to make, that I want to make some for every season.  If you don’t want to use Polyfil, you can use the same technique and use a pillow form.  I chose the Polyfil because it was so much cheaper than buying pillow forms.  But, if you already have an form on hand, do it the same way.
