Best Things To Buy In October – Money Saving Deals
If you would like to know what the best things to buy in October are, I’ve got you covered!
October is probably my most favorite month of the year! Temps have definitely dropped, even in Texas and the sights & sounds of Fall are all around us!
Not only is it one of my favorite seasons, It’s also a great time to save some serious money on things that you may need or will be wanting to buy for either this season or to have for next year. Retailers are anxious to move out the rest of their summer inventory so this is the perfect time to get some bargain basement prices on things that you may be wanting to buy, anyway.
October Sales Events:
Here are a few sales events going on in October 2025, that may help you save some money:
- Amazon Prime Big Deal Days: Also known as October Prime Day, this sale event takes place on October 7-8 and features deals on electronics, home goods, beauty, and more.
- Target Circle Week: From October 5–11, Target Circle members can save on thousands of items, including fall favorites and holiday shopping
- Best Buy’s Techtober Sale: This sale takes place on October 6-12.
- Walmart Holiday Deals: These deals take place from October 7–12
Last month, I shared The Best Things To Buy In September and I decided to keep it going with a great list of the best things to buy (and not to buy) in October!

Best things to buy in October!
Jeans
The Back-To-School shopping season has wound down, which means that most retailers will be looking to get rid of their leftover stock this month. Retailers typically have an overstock of denim jeans in October, so keep your eyes open for deep markdowns and discounts! The selections of sizes and styles may not be as great as in July & August, but if you’re in need of a new pair of jeans, now’s the time to buy!
Pizza
October is National Pizza Month! Look out for pizza-related deals and freebies in your area. Most deals like these are announced through social media, so be sure look up your favorite pizza places on Facebook or Instagram!
Halloween Costumes
If you’re looking for a killer deal, the best time to buy Halloween costumes is actually after Halloween. But if you need a costume for a party this month, wait until about 2 weeks before the 31st. That’s when you’ll start seeing markdowns and discounts!

Camping Gear
The change in seasons will bring sales at outdoor retailers, too. They’ll be stocking up with all of their winter gear, so that means summer gear, like fishing equipment, lighter-weight clothing, coolers and tents need to go. Buy these things now and save it for next summer — or try to get one more final camping adventure in before the weather gets too cold.
If you can hold off on buying winter gear for now and wait until November. Most outdoor retailers like Cabela’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Academy Sports & Outdoor are known for having fantastic Black Friday price cuts on outdoor gear and clothing.
Patio Furniture
Patio sets, umbrellas, and outdoor décor are heavily discounted in October. Stores are clearing space for holiday inventory, so you can often snag 50–70% off. While the selection may be limited, the savings are worth checking out if you’ve had your eye on upgrading your outdoor space.
Appliances
October is a great month to buy large appliances like washers, dryers, dishwashers and stoves. New models for the upcoming year are hitting showrooms now and retailers are eager to sell off the older stock. These appliances are brand new, perfectly functional and the new models don’t change that much from one year to the next. It’s all about changing out the old inventory to the new, so waiting until now and opting for last year’s model will save you some serious cash!
Early Tech Deals
While it’s true that some electronics are better left until Black Friday, there are a few exceptions in October thanks to Prime Big Deal Days and competing sales. Laptops, tablets, headphones, and smart home devices (like Ring doorbells and Echo speakers) see some of their lowest prices of the season this month. If you’ve been considering any of these, October can be a smart time to buy.
Summer Gear
Just like in September, discounts on lawn mowers, grills, swimsuits, and other summer gear will be rock bottom in October.
Wedding Supplies
As beautiful as it is, Fall isn’t exactly prime wedding season for most people. That means planning one gets a lot easier this time of year. Negotiate services, find your venue and buy or rent supplies for much less in the fall and winter season.

Plants
Summer plants, trees, and shrubs can still be picked up for dirt-cheap prices this month. Garden centers are stocking up on fall and holiday plants. Also, October is a great month to fill out landscaping with perennials and Summer plants at rock-bottom prices. although the selections may be slim. It’s definitely worth checking!
In Season Produce
Look for great prices on apples, berries, beets, cantaloupes, cauliflower, eggplants, pumpkins, different varieties of squash & more!
Many vegetables & fruits can also be frozen so you can enjoy fresh produce anytime!
Here’s a great website, Seasonal Food Guide, that will help you find just what’s in season where you live.
Bikes, Toys & Games
Fall is a great time to snag a good deal on a bikes, toys & games. Most retailers are needing to make room for other seasonal merchandise. That means they’ll be ramping up their holiday sales, this month, just in time for holiday shopping. You can get even better deals if you can hold off until November for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.
Air Conditioners
The best time to buy air conditioners when you’re on a budget is when the temperature really start to drop. Stores will be looking to get rid of their air conditioners for the year by deeply discounting them. This is the perfect time to take advantage of great prices and store that AC until you need it next year.
Mattresses
Mattress retailers often launch clearance sales in October to clear out old inventory before Black Friday and the new year. If you need a new bed, you can find big savings now without waiting for November.
Travel Deals
October is what’s called a “shoulder season” for travel, meaning flights and hotel stays are usually cheaper between the busy summer and holiday seasons. If you’re thinking about a getaway, this month can be a great time to book and save.
Fall Candles & Home Décor
Retailers start rolling out Christmas items early, which means fall-scented candles, throws, and décor often get marked down in October. If you love cozy seasonal touches, now’s the time to scoop them up at a discount.

Holiday Gift Sets
Beauty and skincare gift sets usually launch in October, and they often include extra products for the same price. These make great gifts or a frugal way to stock up on your own essentials.
Cars
If you’re in the market for a reliable used car, October can be a smart month to buy. Dealerships are clearing out inventory to make room for next year’s models, which means you’ll often see discounts and deals on used cars as well. End-of-month and end-of-quarter quotas also mean sales teams are more motivated to negotiate.
The key? Don’t buy brand new and don’t finance. Look for a dependable used car, pay cash if you can, and skip the depreciation that comes with driving a new car off the lot.
What Not To Buy In October
- Electronics – If you know you’ll be in the market for them, try and hold off until Black Friday/Cyber Monday. You’ll score much better deals than buying in October.
- Fall & winter clothing – Wait until end of season, usually the first of the year. If you can’t hold off that long, at least wait until November Black Friday to get a better deal.
- Halloween costumes – Definitely wait until right after Halloween. If you can’t wait for after holiday sales, try and wait until about 2 weeks before the holiday. That’s when many retailers begin having sales.
- Boots – If you want to find a great deal on boots, October isn’t the time. Wait until Black Friday or even better, wait until after the holidays.
- Luxury items – You won’t score any deals on high priced perfume, expensive lingerie or too much of anything that’s considered a luxury item. You find your best deals on these items in December.
I’m not saying to rush out and spend money on these things just because they’re on sale. If you’re in the market for any of these items or know you’ll need them next season, October can be a great time to save, as long as you stick to your budget and pay cash. Smart shopping now can help you get what you need without going into debt while keeping your finances frugal and stress-free.
